“Vote!”, they said.

So we did.

Then they changed their minds.

“Educate yourselves, then vote!”, they said.

So we did.

They again changed their minds.

“Educate yourselves, volunteer, then vote!”, they said.

So we did.

They still changed their minds.

“Educate yourselves, volunteer, donate, then vote!”, they said.

So we did.

Once again, they changed their minds.

Finally, we asked, “What did we do wrong?”

“Well,” they said.

“Yes, you educated yourselves,

But you didn’t learn how to make people angry.”

“Yes, you volunteered,

But you didn’t troll people.”

“Yes, you donated,

But you didn’t make us an offer we couldn’t refuse.”

“So we changed our minds.”

(This poem dedicated to everyone who struggles to understand Democratic governments as they stand today.)

By the way, a friend pointed out that Lawrence Lessig has a TED talk in a very similar vein. Highly recommended:
